Real Sound Lab Wins “Par Excellence” Award from Pro Audio Review at New York AES Show

The recent AES trade fair at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City was a grand event for Latvia’s Real Sound Lab. Among the hundreds of exhibitors, the company clearly emerged as one of the top attractions at the event.

Ken DeLoria, Director of Pro Audio stated, “During the four days of exhibitions more than 500 people came through our demo room to learn about how CONEQTM can change their businesses and their lives. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the results!”

CONEQ is a patented technology that corrects and improves the response of all manner of loudspeaker systems ranging from studio monitors to concert arrays. Based on a proprietary Acoustic Power Measurement that acquires hundreds of measurement points around a sound emitter, CONEQ synthesizes a 4096 point inverse response curve that renders the loudspeaker, or loudspeaker array, literally ruler-flat. Corrective response curves of both higher and lower resolution are also possible.

“CONEQ has captured the imagination of sound designers, production engineers, studio owners, and OEM partners far more rapidly than I would have guessed,” states DeLoria. “Our original estimate of usage has already been substantially exceeded.”

For those who couldn’t attend, the Real Sound Lab Demo Room was nicely appointed with drapery and theatrical lighting, reminiscent of a NY jazz club. Following a short PowerPoint introduction, the Irwin Hall Jazz Trio played against a recording they made in the demo room, a few days before the show. “We hired an excellent New York jazz band and rented a grand piano for the occasion,” stated DeLoria. “We took the recorded track and muted the music every four bars. During our demos, the band played when the track was muted, and the track would play only when the band was silent. In this way, our visitors could compare the sound of live, unamplified acoustic instruments to that of the recorded track played back through CONEQ corrected loudspeakers. The results were uncanny! It was difficult to tell when the band was actually playing or when they were waiting for the next mute point to come around. If you couldn’t see their fingers, for the most part you wouldn’t know,” he concluded.
