APEQ-2pro DIO review from bayfm, Tokyo!

06/07/2010

Real Sound Lab Japan has delivered APEQ-2pro DIO to one of the major Japanese FM radio stations - bayfm.

bayfm is located approx. 30 km East of central Tokyo, and their studios are facing the beautiful Tokyo Bay.

Mr. Yoshio Ueno, a technical director of bayfm, found out about CONEQ technology in InterBEE 2009.

“The concept of CONEQ is theoretically correct”, says Mr. Ueno. He had been feeling doubt about conventional SPL equalization method for decades in his sound engineering carrier and therefore had been refusing to use an equalizer in his studio. He says, “Conventional EQ gives different data each time we measure, and there is no way we can trust it. It is impossible to correct loudspeakers by SPL level of only one given point. Moreover, conventional EQ ruins phase. This is not the way to correct studio monitors.” However, CONEQ was different. He fully agrees to the point that correction of APFR (Acoustic Power Frequency Response) is the correct way to equalize loudspeakers and therefore decided to ask for demonstration of APEQ.

After demonstration, he soon decided to introduce it into one of bayfm’s studios to start with. “All of our engineers say it is much easier to understand and judge the sound with APEQ”, says Mr. Ueno. He continues that “bayfm is on 27th floor of the building along the coast. All studios have large windows for guests and employees to enjoy the scenery, therefore we somewhat sacrifice the acoustical characteristics. APEQ corrects not only frequency response, but also time alignment. This provides the perfect sound quality, and I felt we must utilize this technology. Correct sound by correct theory, this is what the CONEQ technology can provide.”

At last he concludes, “Not only CONEQ corrects sound, but also CONEQ Workshop provides very precise measurement data of a loudspeaker including the primary reflections. This is the domain that we had been using our experience and perception, but CONEQ clearly indicates our way of further architectural modification. The power of CONEQ technology is magnificent.”

bayfm has equipped all its 5 studios with APEQ-2pro DIO’s.
